only too…to = very…to，标明”非常…”

1）i shall be only too pleased to help him.

译文： 他忙，我对错常高兴的。

2) we are only too willing to do it for you.

译文：咱们非常情愿为你做这件事。

留心：这个规划与“too…to…”规划的差异，后者标明“太……而不”

e.g. the patient is too weak to walk.

译文：这个患者太虚弱了，走不动路。

e.g. i am afraid the joy is too great to be true.

= i am afraid the joy is so great that it cannot be true.

译文：我高兴极了，生怕这种欢喜不是真的。

cannot…too…标明“不管怎么也不会过火”。这儿的否定词not可以由never, scarecely等替换。

1）we can never put too much attention to reading comprehension.

译文：咱们再怎么偏重阅览了解也不为过。

2）a book may be compared to your neighbour; if it is good, it cannot last too long; if bad, you cannot get rid of it too early.

译文：一本书比如你的邻居；假定是好书，读书的时刻再长也不嫌长；假定不是好书，你越早丢开它越好。
